Third Place
Professional Books—Covers & Jackets:
Regenerative Almanac
The Regenerative Almanac embodies Matriarchal Design Futures, envisioning a world 100 years from now where knowledge is freed from scarcity, competition, and exclusion.
Designed as a living, bioregional guide, it integrates traditional ecological knowledge, regenerative design, and cooperative governance, ensuring that education, technology, and care work remain interconnected and abundant. More than a book, it functions as a seasonal tracker and communal tool, evolving with the land and its people.
The almanac reflects a world where technology aligns with nature’s cycles. It fosters intergenerational stewardship, elder guidance, and cooperative knowledge-sharing, ensuring continuity and adaptability. Ultimately, it is not just a record of wisdom but a manifestation of a future where design nurtures human and non-human kin alike, sustaining flourishing communities through mutual care.
MATRIARCHAL DESIGN FUTURES: BOOKSTAND 2125
This project was a part of Bookstand 2125, a collaborative design fiction project that invited artists and designers to imagine and create books from the year 2125. In this speculative future, knowledge and creativity flourish within systems centered on care, nurturing, and collective well being, rather than competition and scarcity.
Contributors were encouraged to “explore bold, even preposterous ideas that challenge current paradigms and light the way toward preferred futures.”
Matriarchal Design Futures is a non-capitalistic, non-hierarchical pedagogical framework centering the practices and values of caregiving and nurturing, which holds for all identities: for caregivers, mothers, those who are not mothers, women, men, and nonbinary alike. The initiative was co-created by Heather Synder Quinn (DePaul) and Ayako Takase (RISD).

Professional Logos: Lilac
The world needs lithium to transition to a clean electric future. That means clean, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for obtaining lithium are essential. Lilac is the leading provider of commercially-ready ion exchange technology solutions that help unlock faster, cheaper, and cleaner production methods to meet today’s lithium demand.
We worked to comprehensively (re)introduce Lilac. Built for the electric now. The custom typography in the new wordmark supports a bold, progressive vision. The dot in the “A” alludes to the process of lithium extraction.
A bonus: a flamingo mascot was developed as a symbol for the internal Lilac team—an emblem of the birds that flock to the brine lakes where their technology is deployed.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
In 1980, PRINT Magazine launched PRINT’s Regional Design Awards competition with a simple goal: to show that outstanding design wasn’t just limited to New York City, and could be found throughout every single region of the United States. Forty years later they updated and relaunched their annual awards program to showcase the reality that outstanding design isn’t limited to the United States—it can be found in every corner of the globe.
This year’s jury worked across a wide array of categories, evaluating entries based on the following criteria:
- Originality: Design that is unique; design that stands on its own and makes a statement.
- Innovation: Design that showcases a fresh way of achieving solutions; design that stirs new ideas and is likely to influence and inspire.
- Longevity: Design that is of its time—but likely to stand the test of time.
- Craft: Projects that exhibit a high caliber of skill and a deft hand; that have been executed with intent to deliver results.
